Da Kink In My Hair

Da Kink In My Hair

Posted on 01 Sep 2010

Well I guess I was tardy for the party!!!  Seems I’ve missed out on a really interesting show based out of Canada called “Da Kink In My Hair.”  I’ve had it on my desktop for some time now to take a look at, thinking that it was still on the air, but unfortunately I’ve recently discovered (see below) that it was canceled LAST YEAR!  The show was about a stylist named “Letty” and the goings on in her Toronto based salon.

Here’s an excerpt from Showcase.ca:

Novelette Campbell (Ordena Stephens-Thompson), the smart and vivacious owner of Letty’s, has all the answers for her clients’ dilemmas but can’t always figure out how to tame the tangles in her own life.

Joined by her zany sister, Joy (trey anthony), her Jamaican born fourteenyear old son, Dre (Conroy Stewart) and her quirky family of stylists, including the wide-eyed new girl, Starr (Ngozi Paul) and the wicked-tongued bad boy, Nigel (Richard Fagon), the only thing Letty’s lacks is a little peace and quiet.

Well whether or not it’s canceled, we here at MBHS do not care, we love the fact that its about black hair!  So we’ve included a couple of videos that we’ve found so you can get to know them too.  Who knows, maybe Global TV or some other channel will have a change of heart and put it back on!

Excerpt from TVGUIDE.ca

Where can I see the third season of Da Kink in my Hair? I can only seem to get repeats of the first and second season. I love this show.Daniela

Amber: I hate to set a negative introductory tone to week’s column, but Daniela, Da Kink is gone. Canwest opted not to pick up a third season of the series, despite the groundbreaking portrayal of African American women it encompassed. It’s unfortunate, because I feel (and this is my personal opinion here) that if Kink had a bigger budget and stronger promotion, it could have amassed a larger following and perhaps even migrated south.

“Lye” or “No Lye”: The Truth

Posted on 26 Aug 2010

No-lye relaxers are gentler on the hair than lye relaxers, which contain sodium hydroxide as the active ingredient.  With no-lye relaxers, calcium hydroxide and guanidine carbonate are mixed together to produce guanidine hydroxide.  The hydroxide is what makes the relaxer reactive.  Relaxers work because they break the bonds that actually give strength to the hair.  Therefore, relaxed hair is, by definition, weaker than natural hair and also has less sebum (an oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands – its purpose is to protect hair from drying out).  Which is why it is of utmost importance to give relaxed hair the best care possible and opt for relaxing systems that focus on superior anti-breakage treatments.

How Does Shea Butter Benefit Hair?

How Does Shea Butter Benefit Hair?

Posted on 23 Aug 2010

Shea Butter provides moisture to dry or damaged hair from the roots to the very tips, helping to repair and protect against the heat from the most damaging thermal styling tools, including irons and dryers.  It also provides protection from the harsh effects of the environment.  It also absorbs quickly and completely into the scalp to rehydrate without clogging pores.  Particularly beneficial for processed and heat-treated hair, it’s an excellent treatment for dry scalp and also restores luster to damaged hair.  Cantu hair products penetrate deep into the hair shaft and scalp to prevent breakage and smooth the texture and appearance of dry, coarse or chemically processed hair.
